allison221b:

It’s a bit easier for me to acknowledge when an episode (or more than one ep) of a TV show isn’t very good.

That being said, I find that I am rather protective of shows that didn’t start out well or that struggled a bit at first but then got better

I guess first seasons can either be okay or amazing or even a combination.

After reading metas about some of my fav first seasons, it makes me even more prone to want to defend to the death my characters and shows even if I know they weren’t always brilliant, because it’s like they were just starting out, and the writers and actors and everyone was figuring this shit out. It’s a balance of giving grace while still expecting great things and believing in the process

Totally agree. I learned that in big way from Supernatural. The first few episodes were not bad, but I wasn’t overly enthused. It wasn’t until about halfway through the first season that it hooked me.

I always try to stick with a show at least that long, knowing that they are new and suffering growing pains, cast and crew finding their footing and getting to know one another.
